Honey Baked Spam

Honey Baked Spam is an attempt to gather spam and malware run data in real time by providing honeypot servers that emulate open SMTP relays, broken web applications, and mass mailing scripts. These scripts, instead of realying mail, send the messages sent to a central database, in which the messages are inspected and analyzed. In an effort to convince spammers that the relays are open and the applications are relaying mail, "probe messages", the messages that the spammer sends to test the relay, often sends to himself, are resent by the system to the spammer.

Initial tests of the system were moderately successful and the system is currently in development. We expect to have this open to volunteers in Summer 2007.
